The Road to the Perfect Photo
The campaign road is a rough one, with every passenger, from the candidate to the speech writer to the bus driver, all trying to survive the bumps and potholes of the journey. And what about the photo journalists trying to capture and document the triumphs and tribulations of the bumpy journey all the while trying to keep their camera steady? The USC Annenberg Space for Photography presents the Deadlines to Headlines: Covering a Campaign with seasoned speakers such as Damon Winter, Chip Somodevilla, Carolyn Kaster, and Ben LaBolt on Saturday, August 25th.
Photography = History
We often forget that photography is not just an art, but a means of documentation. Photography has changed the way we document and retell history, allowing the photos to speak for themselves without an interpreter. The Getty allows this raw and real documentation of iconic figures from the 20th and 21st century through its Icons of Style exhibit. The exhibit features over 160 photographs highlighted by costumes, illustrations, magazine covers, videos, and advertisements. It provides insight into the history of icons and legends through different lenses.
Smile Mr. President!
Everyone understands the struggle to take a good Instagram photo, but what about taking a photo of the president? On Saturday, June 2 the Annenberg Space for Photography will be presenting three former White House phtographers: Sharon Farmer, Eric Draper, and Lawrence Jackson. Through a selection of photos, they will be detailing their time at the White House as they covered historical events of the world and the private life of the United States President.
In the Heat of the Moment
You don't need to be Californian to know that the heat here is one-of-a-kind. Wander into the desert known as Death Valley and, well, it's in the name. A one-of-a-kind landscape and weather can only bring out one-of-a-kind photographs, which is the agenda of Stephen Burns. Join Stephen Burns from Thursday, May 17th to Sunday, May 20th in the 2018 Death Valley Photography Wokshop. The tour/workshop will cover the Mesquite Sand Dunes, Racetrak, Badwater, and various ghost towns. The beautiful nature and wonderful wilderness of the valley will inspire the production of only the best photos, and with the professional guidance provided by Stephen Burns, only masterpieces will be created.
