A Presidential Fashion Sense
Being the President of the United States is a job title that comes with alot of scrutiny, the press always hounding you for not saying the perfect adjective, walking with a weird gait, and never fixing the economy. But what about your fashion sense? Unless the President is naked or wearing a frumpy old suit, his fashion sense does not get analyzed by the microscope. However, it is a completely different story for the First Lady. The press is pretty critical about the statements First Ladies make with their clothing pieces, illustrating the blending of politics and fashion. The Nixon Library will be hosting a 7-part speaker series called Why They Wore It: The Politics & Pop Culture of Fashion that will analyze the impact of the First Ladies through their literal and figuratve statements.
The Real Deal
With its vibrant colors, eye-catching prints, and bold shapes, it is easy to spot fashion that has its influence from African culture and fashion. However, it has been morphed and edited through an outsider's perspective. How about getting an insider's scoop? Raissa SOMDAH is a young woman from Burkina Faso in West Africa who has brought her culture's fashion and aesthetic to the runway in RawRose C&A's "La Fashion Underground" show. She has made it a point to bring authentic African fashion that is created with the highest quality of African fabrics and hand-made products. The fashion show will be held on Saturday, July 14th from 7-10pm.
